While the phrase "Key to the City" is more commonly heard by New Yorkers today, the emblematic prize in question was originally known as the "Freedom of the City." The Freedom was an honor that symbolically "unlocked" every corner of the metropolis, allowing its holder the right to travel unhindered through its vast and rapidly-changing expanse.
This photoblog is a journey through contemporary New York City. It knows the bounds of no borough or block. It is a humble offering: a Freedom of the City, bestowed upon its viewers, allowing them to explore New York through the eyes of the photographer. It is far from comprehensive or authoritative, but its purpose is to highlight the incredible diversity and wonder of the place that it documents.
